Colourpop Haul

Hi loves!

So, you must have heard all about Colourpop cosmetics by now. And if not, then you really should get in the know, because this is one great brand! And it’s super affordable too, while at the same time the quality of their products is as good as higher end brands.

There was a makeup fair in Lahore a while back, and I used this opportunity to get my hands on some gorgeous Colourpop products, among other things. To see what I got, keep on reading!

1. Colourpop super shock eyeshadow in ‘Nillionaire’

This is one of their single eyeshadows from their Metallic range, and it’s a gorgeous glittery bronze color.

A full review is coming soon on this eyeshadow as well as the other products in this post, so stay tuned.

All of colourpop’s single eyeshadows cost $5 and I purchased this for PKR 950.

2. Colourpop super shock blush in ‘Never been kissed’

This is a beautiful, fresh peach colour and the product itself is a creamy formula and glides onto the skin quite effortlessly. This blush costs $8 on the Colourpop website and I purchased it for PKR 1500.

3. Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks in ‘Mars’, ‘Creeper’ and ‘Succulent’

I bought three of Colourpop’s liquid lipsticks and I love them all. They’re all such pretty colours and extremely long-wearing. They each cost $6 and I bought them for PKR 1000.

So, that about sums up my Colourpop haul. I really love this brand and I know for sure that if you try out their products, you’ll love Colourpop just as much!

Stay gorgeous!

Until next time,

xoxo.

Winter Hair Care Tips

Hey guys! I know what a toll the harsh winter weather can take on your looks. That’s why I’m going to be sharing my top tips for keeping your hair and skin looking fabulous all winter, in a two part post.

As you can tell from the title, this part is about hair care. Read on to find out my top tips for caring for your hair during the winter.

In this cold season, hair usually becomes really dry and you may notice some dandruff. So of course, it needs some extra TLC!

1. Lemon and Olive Oil Hair Mask

This mask is great if you’re suffering from dandruff or an itchy scalp due to extreme dryness. It also treats hair fall, which is a common occurance in the winter. I’ve already posted about this hair mask, so click here to read the recipe.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is probably one of the best moisturisers for your hair! Massage it into your hair and leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour, then shampoo and condition. Trust me, coconut oil will leave your locks feeling super soft and moisturised, as well as looking glossy and luscious.

Bonus: Coconut oil is also known for its hair thickening and lengthening properties.

Tip: During colder months, coconut oil has a tendency to freeze and become solid. To liquefy, simply place the bottle in a bowl of warm/hot water. The oil itself will heat up a bit too, giving you the benefit of a hot oil treatment!

3. Cool water rinse

Hot water is really damaging for your hair. Cold water, on the other hand, seals the hair shaft, helping your hair retain moisture while reducing frizziness and appearing sleeker. So brave up and rinse your hair with some cool water after you’ve washed off your conditioner!

4. Use a protective serum/ heat protectant

If you plan on heat styling your hair, it’s absolutely imperative to use a heat protectant to minimise damage. I recommend the Paul Mitchell heat protectant. Or, you could also use my all time favourite serum from Herbal Essences: the 7 in 1 Moroccan Miracle serum. It contains Argan oil so it makes your hair really shiny and silky. It also doubles as a heat protectant. Honestly, I would recommend this serum to everyone regardless of whether you plan on heat styling or not, because it’s usually a good idea to apply a serum onto your hair after you wash it. The Herbal Essences serum can be applied to wet or dry hair, so I apply this after I wash my hair, as well as once during the day to tame my locks and reduce frizziness and flyways.

5. Blow-dry downwards

In the winter, it’s usually too cold to leave your hair wet, so most of us resort to blow drying our hair. It’s always best to use a downward motion when you blow-dry, to prevent frizziness and get a sleeker finish.

So that’s all from my side today! Hopefully these tips will keep your hair in perfect condition all through the merciless winter.

Feel free to leave your own tips in the comments below so that others can benefit, too!

P.S: The next post, which will be about skin care, is coming soon. Stay tuned!

Until next time,

xoxo.

Mary Loumanizer by TheBalm- Review

Hey dolls! In today’s blog post I am going to be reviewing a product which has been on my wish list for a couple of months now, and I finally got to get my hands on it at the makeup fair which was held in Lahore recently.

Mary Loumanizer is a highlighter from TheBalm, and costs $24. I bought it for PKR 2500, which is pretty affordable. The company describes it as:

A seemingly innocent honey-hued luminizer that catches everybody’s eye. This highlighter, shadow and shimmer diffuses light so your skin looks softer and younger while adding a subtle glow.

Let’s talk about the packaging first. It’s very kitsch and girly and I adore it. It looks so pretty sitting on my vanity. Mary Loumanizer comes packaged in a round, silver plastic compact which looks a lot like metal. Inside, there is a generous sized mirror. The outer packaging has the same print as the compact and is a square cardboard box.

Mary Loumanizer contains a whooping 8.5g of product! I doubt that I’ll run out of it for a long time. So from that aspect, it’s a really good investment into your makeup collection. The product itself is a finely milled powder and is a gorgeous champagne gold. The best part is that there aren’t any visible chunks of glitter like many other highlighters have. Instead, it’s all shimmer and when you apply it onto your face it gives a beautiful sheen.

This highlighter is insanely pigmented! I was honestly amazed at how much glow I get when I apply just a little bit. I usually use a fan brush to apply the highlighter onto the tops of my cheekbones and then sweep whatever is remaining on the brush onto the bridge of my nose and my chin. Then, I add some highlighter onto my Cupid’s bow and inner corner of my eyes for a lit-from-within glow. You can also use a stippling brush to apply it if you want more intensity.

As you can see, I was super excited to try it out and swatched it before I had a chance to take a picture!

It is very easy to build up the intensity of the glow by simply adding more and taking it from subtle to all-out GLOWLY. (Just abstain from looking like a disco ball, the rest is all good.)

You can also use the Mary Loumanizer as an eyeshadow and brow highlight, so that’s a bonus.

I’m going to add in some pictures of myself wearing Mary Loumanizer, but I apologise in advance for the less-than-perfect picture quality because I took these from my phone.

Just look at that glow!

So overall, this is my new favourite highlighter. Hands down. Nothing else I’ve tried so far beats this. It’s absolutely stunning in real life. The pictures hardly do it any justice!

Pros:

  • Adorable packaging
  • Extremely pigmented
  • Champagne gold colour suits a variety of skin tones
  • Easy to build up intensity
  • A lot of product given
  • No glitter chunks
  • Multi functional
  • Smooth, buttery texture

Cons:

  • None!

Would I recommend this? For sure! There’s a reason makeup gurus gush about this product endlessly. It’s too beautiful for words.

Your best bet would be to buy this online at thebalm.com or on a Facebook makeup page such as Cosmetic Candy.

Update: The Balm has now opened in Pakistan! At the moment their products are only available in Karachi but hopefully they’ll be coming to other cities soon.

Why you shouldn’t use fake/unbranded makeup

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? x

Today’s blog post is a little more on the serious side. I’m going to discuss an issue which I personally feel isn’t blogged about enough, so I really want to talk about it and let you guys know just how dangerous this can really be- buying and using fake or unbranded makeup.

It may not seem like a big deal, but fake makeup can seriously be bad for your skin and your health overall. There’s TONS of pages on Facebook selling Urban Decay’s ‘Naked 5’ palette (which hasn’t even been released as yet, btw) for a mere PKR 2000 or less, while the actual thing is priced at about PKR 5500. (In Pakistan it’s way more expensive at shops that sell it, being priced anywhere from PKR 7500 to PKR 9000.)

Apart from that, they even sell fake foundations, face powders, eyeliners, mascaras, concealers and lip products from high end brands like MAC, Clinique, Urban Decay, etc. And when you ask them if they’re original, they’ll say something on the lines of ‘It’s a first copy, and very good quality’.

Let me tell you something straight up: there’s nothing such as a ‘first copy’ when it comes to makeup. A ‘first copy’ is just as much of a fake as a slightly cheaper copy. And it’s not good quality. There’s a HUGE difference between the original product and the fake, even if the packaging looks the same. The eyeshadows, for example, will be chalky, sheer and will lack the gorgeous pigmentation and textures of the original.

naked5 fake

Even Naked 4 hasn’t been released as yet. Notice the cheap looking packaging

All of these fake products are actually unbranded, when you think about it. They’re labelled as MAC and Benefit and whatnot, but do you really know where they’re coming from? Do you know where they were made, and under what sanitary conditions? And for those who prefer to use cruelty free makeup- how do you know no animals were harmed during the production of these unbranded cosmetics?

ud brush fake

Naked 3 brushes? What?!

I’m not just discouraging you from buying fake makeup because I think it’s ‘tacky’ or anything. The reason I’m so against fake makeup is because it can contain SO many harmful ingredients. Like I said before, the production process of these cosmetics isn’t administered so God knows what they put into them. However, fake makeup usually contains high levels of arsenic, lead, copper etc. These ingredients are often much higher in concentration than the permitted and approved amount, making them very harmful. People have had really bad experiences where their skin was actually left scarred and permanently damaged by using counterfeit foundations and skin products. Even the fake eyeliners and eyeshdows contain harmful ingredients, so please don’t buy counterfeit makeup! The quality is also terrible, and even though it seems cheap, you’re actually paying a lot more than the product is worth!

According to DailyMail, the profit made from selling counterfeit makeup is actually going towards the funding of illegal drugs! Eeks.

I know there’s a huge rage around using expensive, high end makeup and not everyone can afford it or is willing to spend so much on makeup (especially since it’s twice the actual price here). But buying fake high end cosmetics and ruining your skin or even causing BRAIN DAMAGE (through high amounts of lead) is really not worth it. So don’t be fooled by these pages and websites selling expensive makeup for a very low price because they’re selling fake products. I promise you drugstore brands work amazingly well, too. In fact, the quality of drugstore brands is tenfold better than those of unbranded, counterfeit products.

counterfeit MAC eyeliners

Sometimes, we unknowingly purchase fake makeup, thinking we’ve scored a great bargain. The solution to this is to buy only from pages, websites and shops that you trust. Do your research- see how much the original product costs, what the packaging looks like, etc. If you’re buying an original product online or in store, the price should be slightly higher than the actual price.

Below are some screenshots of a Facebook page selling makeup for less than its original price:

I personally suggest you buy makeup from either Al Fateh or Enem ( or Aghas if you live in Karachi) , as their products are original. I usually get my high end products from there. If you want to purchase makeup online, just4girls.pk is a great website, as well as Cosmetic Candy on Facebook. I’ve had good experiences with both of them.

I really hope this post helped, and you guys should spread the word about how harmful counterfeit makeup can be. Saving a couple of thousands isn’t worth destroying your looks over, forever. There’s great dupes for high end products out there for half the price in drugstores. The next time you hear a friend or relative say what a great bargain they’ve found, ask them to think twice. xx

P.s: If you guys want to know about any dupes for high end products, leave the name of the product in the comments below and I’ll suggest a good dupe. You can also inbox me on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/muffinsandcouture/

Until next time,
